SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Authorities are still searching for two suspects who eluded police following a chase on I-95 in Sussex County last week.
Sussex County Sheriff Earnest L. Giles told 8News that deputies were involved in a pursuit last Friday that began near Halifax, North Carolina before the suspect vehicle crashed in Sussex County.
Authorities said there were four people in the car; two of them were apprehended after the wreck, but the two others escaped on foot.
Investigators believe the two suspects entered a nearby travel center ‘for a brief time’ before getting a ride away from the location.
Sheriff Giles said the suspects’ pictures have been sent to authorities in North Carolina. Investigators also believe the two suspects could be in either Fredericksburg or Washington D.C.
The incident sparked a manhunt last Friday as deputies with the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police launched a search off I-95 near the exit for Rt. 40 (mile marker 31).
Sheriff Giles said the two suspects who were apprehended are not cooperating, but added that there was ‘no immediate threat to residents in Sussex County.’
