STAFFORD, Va. (WRIC) — A Spotsylvania man was arrested Saturday night on eight counts of assault on law enforcement following a domestic incident that occurred in a jail parking lot.

Authorities identified the man as Zachary Bartley, 34 of Spotsylvania. Deputies said the man was arguing with a woman in the parking lot of the Rappahannock Regional Jail around 7:30 p.m.

Deputies responded and Bartley became combative. He was put in handcuffs but continued to yell at law enforcement and the woman.

According to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, Bartley began using obscene and threatening language and then dropped to the ground and began rolling around and kicking deputies.

Once inside the jail, he attempted to bite a first sergeant. Two deputies suffered minor injuries.

Bartley is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail and is charged with eight counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest.
