UPDATE: Teen hospitalized, man in custody after shooting near Chamberlayne Avenue and Watkins Street

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A teenager was shot and hospitalized during a Northside Richmond shooting, now his suspected shooter is facing multiple charges.

There was a heavy police presence in Richmond’s Northside on Watkins Street near Chamberlayne Avenue and Old Brook Road on Thursday afternoon. Police said they were called there after an officer heard gunfire around 3:45 p.m.

According to Richmond Police, the victim is a older teenage boy. He was taken to the hospital and is being treated for a non-life threatening injury.

The suspect, a 24-year-old man was taken into police custody following the shooting. He has been charged with attempted murder, use of a fire arm and commission of a felony.

An 8News source captured video on their doorbell camera. The video doesn’t show a shooter but what sounds like close to 20 gunshots can be heard. There are no voices or other noises in the video.

The scene was directly across from Pine Camp park where kids were actively playing.

Another neighbor said that gun violence is rampant in the area and she also heard around 15 to 20 gunshots.
