STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Stafford County woman was charged with driving under the influence after she allegedly drank a small box of wine at Target and drove away from the store.
On Friday evening, a deputy initiated a traffic stop on Route 17 after witnessing a driver flick a burning cigarette out of the window.
The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said that when the deputy approached the vehicle, he immediately smelled a strong odor of alcohol. He also said the driver, 30-year-old Diana Thorne, had slurred speech and bloodshot and glassy eyes.
The deputy also saw an empty box of wine inside the vehicle as well as a full, unopened one. Thorne later admitted to drinking the wine in the Target on South Gateway Drive.
She was taken to a hospital where authorities say she kicked two deputies.
Thorne was charged with driving under the influence, assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, obstruction of justice, use of abusive language and throwing an inflammatory object from a vehicle.
