RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — At some point since its inception, CrossFit went from being a workout fad to a sport. The sport and the workout fad have grown tremendously in past three years. Thursday night, a group of nearly 100 people gathered to view the release of Crossfit Open workout 16.2. The workout is one of five weekly workouts that the CrossFit organization uses to create a regional field and eventually a national field. Athletes complete each workout each week and if their scores are good enough they move on to regional competitions and eventually the national competition. The 2015 male winner of the CrossFit Games was a Virginian, 25 year-old Ben Smith. Even Smith had to start in an event like this.
