MIAMI, Fla. (WRIC) — The driver who lost consciousness while operating the University of Virginia baseball team’s charter bus in Miami, Florida Thursday night has died.

UVA’s athletic department issued the following statement Friday afternoon:

According to a release issued by Miami Fire-Rescue Thursday night, the bus was crossing U.S. Route 1 in Miami when the driver lost consciousness behind the wheel. The team coach and his staff attempted to gain control of the bus before it crashed into three parked vehicles and a motorized scooter.

The team’s staff performed CPR on the driver until firefighters arrived on scene. The driver was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.

None of the players or staff were injured.
