Friends remember beloved Richmond bartender killed in crash

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — It’s been an extremely sad couple of days for Metzger Bar and Butchery in Church Hill, where Kurt Moon was a beloved bartender.

“He was always a great person to work with, as well as just someone who always made me laugh if I just went for a drink or dinner at Metzger,” says Kayla Serene of Early Bird Biscuit Co.

She worked with Moon during Metzger’s Oktoberfest last Saturday.

Moon was killed early Sunday Morning when he was thrown from a car he was riding in on Osbourne Parkway near River Bend Estates. The news of his death hit the community especially hard.

Metzger closed its doors for Sunday brunch and posted a touching tribute to Moon on Facebook saying, ‘we lost one of our favorite human beings yesterday. Kurt was the glue that held our Metzger family together.”

“Many of us worked with him on Saturday and even were with him Saturday night for a celebratory drink,” Serene added.

Moon also used to work at City Dogs in the city’s  Fan District. The driver of the car Moon was riding in, 25-year-old Kasie Lynn Hull, has been charged with Driving Under the Influence and more charges could soon follow.

As for those left behind, the news is still sinking in.

“I’m still very surprised and shocked,” Serene said. “And my heart’s hurting.”

Understandably, the people at Metzger say this wound is still too fresh to talk about but say Moon will be dearly missed.

City Dogs will hold a night of remembrance for Moon during his shift hours on Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.
