COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — A 28-year-old Colonial Heights man was killed after being hit by an unoccupied runaway vehicle Tuesday night.
Colonial Heights Police Department responded to the 500 block of Walnut Avenue Monday night around 9 p.m.for the report of an injured person.
When officers arrived, they found Timothy Randolph Williams injured in the roadway. Police say Williams was struck by a 1997 Ford van.
“The vehicle has been towed and it’s a part of the investigation as to the mechanics of how the vehicle struck him,” said Sgt. Renee Walters.
Williams was transported by EMS to VCU Medical Center where he later died.
“He was a great guy,” Kati Watkins told 8News Reporter Nakell Williams. “Everybody in Colonial Heights knew him. They all were friends with him. He is really going to be missed.”
The Colonial Heights Major Accident Investigation Team and detectives responded to the scene and initiated an investigation, which remains ongoing.This is a developing story.
