RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Heavy rainfall in Central Virginia caused several roads to close on Friday. Viewers in Wakefield, Virginia shared photos of flooding near the Virginia Diner. Mount Hermon Road at East Patrick Henry Road (Route 54) was closed for the safety of local drivers, according to the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash in Hanover County where a woman was killed on Interstate-295 North when she lost control of her car and overturned in the median. While the woman was not wearing her seat belt, state police told 8News: “At the time of the crash, there was heavy rainfall.  It is being considered a factor into the cause of the crash.”

In Henrico, Three Chopt Road near Pocahontas Middle School was closed earlier but has since been reopened. 8News reporter Aaron Thomas went to Henrico to capture video when the road was shut down.
