HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Henrico County student placed third in a regional oratory competition for a speech about his late mother.

Moody Middle School student Ishan Joshi delivered the speech, called “Is There a Fine Line Between Optimism and Reality?” at the Capital-Virginia District Optimist International Oratorical Contest on May 4.

The speech memorialized Radha Joshi, Ishan’s mother, who died after being hit by a car on her bicycle on Nuckols Road in March.

Joshi received more than $1,000 in scholarship money for the speech.

The full text of Joshi’s speech can be found here.
