News

SANDSTON, Va. (WRIC) — The American Legion and Henrico County hosted several events honoring veterans Monday.

The Sandston Memorial Day parade celebrated 11 years. This year’s theme was ‘Honoring our Gulf War Veterans.’

People gathered to remember our fallen heroes. The parade included marching bands, community groups, local businesses and car clubs.

They started at Seven Pines Elementary School on Beulah Road. They marched down to Williamsburg Road through Sandston to Confederate Avenue.

One family came to visit for Atlanta, Georgia for Memorial Day.

“We really want to stress to them that these guys put their lives on the line to make sure we were all free, we were all safe, that we all have a place to come home,” Jason Young said.

This year’s grand marshals were Henrico County’s Police Chief and Gulf War veteran.
