RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Hundreds stopped by Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church in Richmond on Tuesday to pay tribute to community strategist Lillie Estes, who recently died at 59.
Estes served the city in a variety of roles, including as a member of Richmond’s anti-poverty commission. She worked to offer support to both children and families through housing and education.
Friends in Jackson Ward remember her fondly.
“A mother first, a friend, a person who cared about the people that she loved and who she met,” Jackson Ward resident Stewart Jackson said of Estes. “Kind. Always with a smile, and she listened.”
Estes was also a graduate of VCU.
