RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — 8News is taking the lead, teaming up with the Department of Social Services to help children who are desperate to be adopted.

It’s a top priority for Governor Terry McAuliffe’s administration.

8News Anchor Christina Feerick sat down with a woman who has made it her life’s work to place these children in loving homes.

“I can remember sitting in elementary school thinking, ‘I want to be a social worker,’ without really knowing what that was,” said Cherlanda Sydney-Ross, the Family Services Supervisor for the Department of Social Services. “I’ve always been a helper. It’s kind of my personality, and 17 years later, here we are.”Find 8News on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram; send your news tips to iReport8@wric.com.
