The crash occurred shortly after 8 p.m. in the 11100 block of Washington Highway.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2017 Ford Explorer was traveling north on Washington Highway when its passenger-side mirror struck a bicyclist that was traveling south in the northbound lane.

That bicyclist, who has been identified as 62-year-old Ralph J. Derogatis, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“Investigators are still collecting information to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic incident,” the sheriff’s office said in a release.
