COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) – Is reality TV and the internet causing more young women and men to hate their bodies?
Cliff Bennett, the Director of Grace Counseling, believes that TV and social media are playing a big role in some people’s body image issues.
“When there is a lot of pressure for image and there’s a key to being accepted for image, a lot of girls get into that and try to make themselves look as beautiful as they can to find companionship,” said Bennett.
Brian Brach, the Administrator of Jain Plastic Surgery says men can also face body image issues.
“Breast lifts, abdominoplasty, tummy tucks and liposuction and face lifts. There is a large uptick in clients wanting face lifts and facial work done both male and female,” he says.
Brach also says some patients will never be happy with themselves no matter how much work is done.
“Unhappy overall about their image and I don’t know if they will very be completely happy, but they are always trying to change something,” said Brach.
If you or anyone you know is experiencing body image issues, Bennett says it’s important to seek counseling to find the root of the issue.Find 8News on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram; send your news tips to iReport8@wric.com.
