HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Employees of the Colortree Group say in the aftermath of learning the local printing company was closing and laying off hundreds of workers, many did not receive their final paychecks Friday.
Now some are taking action against the local printing company in operation since 1988, to get the money owed to them.
“It’s been rough,” said Wesley Austin, a former employee of the Henrico County worksite. “Just not knowing when we’re going to get paid for the last time.”
Employees arrived to get their last check Friday but were greeted by locked doors.
“During a meeting, they say, we’re closing and you don’t have a job anymore,” said Andrea Austin, a former employee. “Literally, zero warning. Nothing.”
The pair told 8News when they found the doors closed, they tried calling but no one answered.
“We just found out that I’m pregnant,” Wesley Austin said. “So neither one of us have a job now, so what do we do next?”
The couple remains confident they’ll find work elsewhere but wish they were given a better warning for the harsh news.
“After 22 years, all the people been counting you, asking you… are we OK? We kept getting, we’ll be fine, we’ll be fine. We’re just going through a rough time right now, we’ll be fine.” Wesley Austin said.
“You have bills coming due,” Andrea Austin added. “Car payments don’t wait. So, what do you do in the meantime?
