Local baseball, softball teams suffer heartbreaking losses on Championship Friday

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Championship Friday provided some heartbreaking losses for local high school baseball and softball teams.

Cosby lost to South County in the Class 6 softball championship game in 17 innings, 1-0. Cosby’s Taylor Norton and South County’s Cara Martin both pitched the entire game. Martin held Cosby to five hits, striking out 13 and walking none. Norton allowed an unearned run on seven hits with 16 strikeouts and one walk.

A day after winning in walk-off fashion, Mills Godwin had the tables turned on them in the Class 5 baseball title game, losing to Stafford, 4-3, in the bottom of the seventh.

James River Midlothian fell in the Class 6 baseball semifinals to Lake Braddock, 9-6.
