PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — A local college recognized the achievements of those who volunteer their time to their community Saturday night.
Central International College held the event at Good Sheperd Baptist Church in Petersburg to honor those who have given their time, and talk about the importance of community service in establishing a sense of communal responsibility.
About 50 people gathered at the church for the Community Service Banquet.
The banquet recognized people who have been instrumental in setting the standard of what giving back looks like, including a local non-profit which empowers at-risk youth to stay in school.
Willard Biley, the president of the college spoke, stressing the importance of giving back at a young age.
“Worth and achievement. It’s up to us to make our young people realize how each other feel, that they have worth, as we know all people do, and that they are capable of achievements,” Biley said.
Saturday night’s community service banquet was the first one held by the college.Never miss another Facebook post from 8NewsFind 8News on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram; send your news tips to iReport8@wric.com.
