Body of missing fisherman in Falling Creek found

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Authorities say they have recovered a body near Falling Creek days after a man left to go fishing and never returned. 

About 10:30 a.m., Chesterfield officers responded to a report of a man found deceased in Falling Creek near the 2500 block of Marina Drive.

The man has been identified as 38-year-old Edward D. Mendez.

A cause of death has not yet been determined, but at this point, there are no signs of foul play.

On Thursday, Chesterfield Police, Fire & EMS were actively searching Falling Creek in Chesterfield County for a missing fisherman. Police responded to the 2500 block of Marina Drive at around 11 p.m. for reports of a missing adult male. It was reported that the man left to go fishing at around 3:30 p.m. on May 2.

It was Thursday morning that police returned to the area and discovered evidence that indicated the man may have fallen into Falling Creek.

Thursday night, police told 8News the man was still missing and the search would continue. 

Crews from Henrico Police and U.S. Coast Guard assisted with the search.
