CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Chesterfield County boy with a rare illness has died.

8News first introduced its viewers to Carter Roberts in 2016.

The five-year-old was diagnosed with Acute Flaccid Myelitis, or AFM, two-years-ago. The polio-like illness, with no treatment and no cure, left Carter paralyzed from the nose down.

Carter passed away on Saturday night.

“Although we miss him more than words can express, he is free of his machines and tubes,” his mother, Robin Roberts, said.
