CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Talk about the fruits of your labor.
Stanford Bennett has reaped bountiful benefits since taking up gardening. But he’s never produced anything quite like the watermelon that recently ballooned to a whopping 40-pounds in his yard.

Bennett told 8News the first watermelon he grew this summer weighed 10 pounds. Needless to say, he was shocked when he placed watermelon No. 2 on the scale.
“I didn’t do well with the corn seeds or watermelon seeds I planted,” Bennett wrote. “However this year my watermelon patch is doing exceptionally well.”

I’ll say.
The retiree from New York, who moved to Chesterfield County three years ago, said he took up gardening last year.
“Not bad for an inexperienced farmer,” Bennett added.
