CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Chesterfield County Police Department (CCPD) has announced that the victim of a shooting at the Broadwater Townhomes South of Chester has been identified.

According to police, at around 9:20 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, officers responded to multiple reports of gunshots on the 15100 block of Timsberry Circle. When they arrived, officers found 20-year-old Tyjuan Coleman inside of a car. Coleman, who had been shot multiple times, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly afterwards, officers found another shooting victim on the 15900 block of Broadwater Lane, just a few hundred feet away. The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police confirmed to 8News on Friday that the individual hospitalized was a juvenile male, and that he is expected to survive.

“We had two separate scenes, meaning that — where the car was at and the deceased victim, and then, we also had where the other victim was located,” Captain Mike Breeden with CCPD said. “That’s why it was so many people, officers out there, was just to be able to secure both scenes.”

Authorities said they were at the townhomes again on Friday to continue canvassing the area, and speak with the family of the deceased.

“Any time that any of us go to a scene, we feel bad for the victim and, of course, the victim’s family because, at some point, they become an extended part of our family,” Breeden said. “We try to bring that incident to a conclusion in some manner.”

At this time, CCPD has not released suspect information. Authorities said they are working to determine who else might have been involved, and what led up to the shooting.
