CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Flames that sparked in a truck Tuesday morning spread to a Chesterfield County house, leaving a family of six people without a home and injuring a firefighter.

The fire department received a call for a truck fire on the 2300 block of Buena Vista Boulevard at about 9 a.m.

According to Lt. Jason Elmore, the fire from the truck spread to a house — causing damage to the interior of the house and displacing four adults and two children.

A family member told 8News that one of the homeowners was attempting to start his truck when the fire broke out. They explained that when the homeowner went outside to warm up the truck and inserted the key into the ignition, there was an explosion, and flames quickly spread to the side and interior of the home.

A firefighter suffered minor injuries to his neck while battling the fire after a part of the ceiling collapsed on top of him, Lt. Elmore said, but was expected to be released from the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

The cause of the truck fire is still being investigated.

The family of six — four children and two adults — are staying with a family member in the area.
