CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A 28-year-old man was shot to death after a physical altercation broke out in the Matoaca area of Chesterfield Monday morning, police said.

Chesterfield Police received a call at 5:30 a.m. for a man who had been shot at a home on the 6600 block of Jackson Street. When officers arrived, they found the man — later identified as Michael G. Barricks — shot. Barricks was pronounced dead at the scene.

A few blocks away from the scene, police said they found an injured woman and another man in a car.

At this time, police believe that Barricks got into a fight with the woman. During the fight, the woman was stabbed. Police said the second man inside the home shot Barricks, killing him.

=The two men and the woman knew each other, police said. The woman was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
