CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Officials and school leaders in Chesterfield County broke ground on a new Matoaca Middle School on Friday.
The construction plan unites Matoaca Middle’s two campuses and provides a construction site for a replacement Matoaca Elementary.
The plan calls for a new wing to be built onto the East campus, which will include 30 classrooms and space for students currently attending class in the West campus. The old West campus will be the site for a brand new Matoaca Elementary school, fitting 750 students.
The construction project is part of the 2013 bond referendum that focuses on renovating and replacing older school facilities in the county.
The new Matoaca Middle is expected to be completed in 2020.
