Photos show roof of Chesterfield home destroyed after fire

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Chesterfield County home was badly damaged in a fire on Friday night. Photos sent to 8News shows that only part of its roof remains.

Crews told 8News that they arrived at the scene, located on Gills Gate Drive, and found heavy fire coming from the back of the house. The blaze extended to the attic and fire was seen coming from the roof.

According to Chesterfield Fire at the scene, one child suffered mild smoke inhalation and five people were displaced due to the fire.

The child is expected to be OK and the Red Cross will help the residents. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway but at this time fire officials believe it was accidental.
