Police in Chesterfield County are investigating after a family discovered what appears to be a Civil War cannonball in their yard Tuesday afternoon.

Chesterfield Police along with Virginia State Police responded to the home, located in the 4400 block of Beulah Road, after the device was discovered in the woods behind the family’s home.

No roads were closed and no evacuations were needed, according to police. The scene has since cleared and VSP officials have taken the device for further inspection.
