Police: Teen dies after accidentally shooting self with handgun in Chesterfield County

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — An 18-year-old has died after accidentally shooting himself with a handgun in Chesterfield County Wednesday night, police said.

A heavy police presence descended upon the 200 block of Reams Court in Chesterfield after authorities received reports of a shooting at around 7:20 p.m. An ambulance was seen rushing from a home with its sirens on.An 18-year-old, who was originally hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, died early Thursday morning, according to police. 

Investigators say the victim, who has been identified as Tavian McFarland, of Knightwood Place in Chesterfield County, inadvertently shot himself with a handgun.
