Suspect flees, ditches gun after police chase on Powhite Parkway

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- An armed suspect is on the run after a police pursuit ended with a crash on Powhite Parkway early Wednesday morning.

At approximately 2:20 a.m, officers tried to make a traffic stop on Midlothian Turnpike, near Pinetta Drive. 

But  the driver sped off, leading officers onto westbound Powhite Parkway towards Route 288 before crashing.

Police tell 8News the suspect was armed and fled the scene on foot. Officers later found the gun in the woods as they searched for the suspect with flashlights.

No injuries were reported.

The driver is described as a male wearing a red shirt, black pants, black hat and carrying a gun.
