Chesterfield County

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) – A child and a woman drowned at Chesterfield Village Apartments, police tell 8News.

A boy and woman were found unresponsive in the pool around 5:20 p.m. Sunday, Chesterfield Police officers on scene tell 8News. They were both pulled from the pool by other residents. Wilmer Perez is one of the people who jumped into action to try and save them.

“Somebody said there was a woman under the pool and that she had drowned,” Perez said. “So I had dived in there, tried to help her out and save her. Five minutes later there was this young boy that was there. I dived in, got the boy out the pool. We started doing like CPR.”

The victims were taken to Chippenham Hospital. The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital. The woman was treated for serious injuries, but did not make it.

Officers believe the boy and the woman are related. Police continue to investigate this incident, but at this point foul play is not suspected. Anyone with information should contact the Chesterfield County Police Department at 804-748-1251 or Crime Solvers at 804-748-0660.
