SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — One person was killed and three others are suffering from serious injuries after a four-vehicle crash along I-95 in Spotsylvania County this morning.
Virginia State Police said the crash happened when a sedan traveling south on I-95 ran off the left side of the roadway, collided with a guardrail, continued across all three travel lanes, off of the right side of the roadway, and collided with a tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder. The sedan came to rest in the right travel lane and was struck by two additional southbound tractor-trailers.
Southbound lanes of I-95 were closed for several hours, but have since reopened. The on-ramp to southbound I-95 from Route 1 in Massaponax is also open. Southbound travelers may experience residual delays in the Thornburg area, the Virginia Department of Transportation said in a 10 a.m. email update.
Emergency responders remained on the scene for several hours following the crash.
