Deep Run High School senior killed in crash months before graduation

GLEN ALLEN, Va. (WRIC) -- A Deep Run High School student died unexpectedly Wednesday morning.

Oscar Silvay was a senior at Deep Run. Instead of planning for graduation, the young man's parents are planning his funeral.

According to Henrico County Police, Silvay lost control of his car on Nuckols Road and crashed into a light pole. Investigators believe speeding may have contributed to the tragedy.

His classmates are struggling with the sudden loss.

On Friday morning, students gathered in the school parking lot to remember their friend. They put flowers and remembrances in Silvay's parking space.

Silvay's death is hitting parents hard too. The tragedy is a sobering reminder that even at 17-years-old, the future isn't guaranteed.

Condolences are pouring in from friends.

"He was jovial and happy and a good person through and through," wrote one classmate.

Another adds, "He was always there to bring a ray of sunshine and happiness into a situation."

Silvay ran track for the Wildcats and was also a member of Deep Run's JROTC program.

"During lunch in the JROTC room, he was the most lively person to be around," explained a fellow cadet. "He will be deeply missed and kept forever in our thoughts."
