DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Crews in Dinwiddie County are investigating what started a house fire early Tuesday morning.

When Dinwiddie Fire and EMS were called to the 22000 block of Butterwood Road shortly after 1 a.m., they found a single story home with heavy fire showing from two sides.

It took crews roughly an hour to get the blaze under control. There were no reported injuries.

The people living in the home were alerted to the fire by a properly operating smoke detector. The residents and their pets were able to escape the fire through a bedroom window.

Later in the morning, the fire reignited and crews were called back out to the house to fight the rekindled flames.

The home is a total loss and the residents are being assisted by family and friends.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Starlight Studios on Airpark Drive, where the family’s daughter takes dance classes, is accepting donations to help the family starting next week from Monday until Thursday.
