RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Kindergarten Registration Day is Thursday, April 11, for 15 school districts in Central Va.
Children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 30 can start kindergarten this fall, but they have to be registered.
To register your child, you’ll need:
- The child’s official, certified birth certificate
- A deed/lease agreement and one other proof of address (please check your district for specific requirements)
- The School Entrance Health Form (bring anytime before the first day of school)
- A photo I.D. for the child’s parent or legal guardian
Here are details for individual school districts:
Parents should register their children at the school they are zoned to attend. To find the correct school, parents can call 318-8743 or click here. Old Hundred Elementary School registration will be at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
On registration day, make sure you bring your child along for a kindergarten screening, which usually takes about 15 minutes.
If you are unable to attend on April 11, call the school to set up an appointment as soon as possible.

Hanover County Public Schools will hold kindergarten registration on April 11 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parents should register at the elementary school where their child is zoned to attend. To determine the correct school, call 365-4500 or click here.
Children should be registered at the Henrico County Public School they will attend. You can click here to find the school for your address.
To enroll a child in Henrico County Public Schools, the child must reside in Henrico County with a parent or court-appointed legal custodian.

Petersburg City Public Schools will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 11 for kindergarten registration.

Children should be registered at the school they will attend. There is an exception for children who currently attend Westview Early Childhood Education Center. Those children will register for kindergarten at Westview.

A parent or legal guardian must enroll a student in school. Proof of legal guardianship must be provided. Court documents will be the only items accepted as proof of legal guardianship.
