Driver arrested after leading police on chase, jumping into river

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A driver has been arrested after police say he led officers on a chase and jumped into the James River.

Officers attempted to pull over the driver for reckless driving on the 1800 block of E. Broad St. That’s when, officers say, he led them on a chase.

The suspect eventually crashed his car on the 2700 block of E. Main St. Police say the suspect then jumped out of his car, ran to the river, and jumped in near Rocketts Landing. ​​​​​​​Officers say the suspect got out of the river when he realized the water was too cold.

The pursuit started at 3:40 a.m. on Friday and ended three minutes later when the suspect was arrested. The man has been charged with felony eluding and was not injured.
