RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The gardens at Virginia’s Executive Mansion opened to children and parents Friday for “Garden Day.”
Kids got to take part in a wide variety of activities, including getting a close look inside a beehive and spending quality time with a pair of goats.
First Lady Pamela Northam said she wants to make sure children are exposed to science early and develop an appreciation for nature.
“It’s our opportunity to really spark curiosity and to open their eyes to the wonder of nature and how each organism is carefully linked to one another and each to its very specific surrounding,” Northam said.
The event wraps up Historic Garden Week in Virginia. People checked out the grounds of more than 250 homes and historic landmarks throughout the Commonwealth.
