CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WRIC) — A charter bus traveling to New York overturned on Interstate 95 North in Prince George County on Tuesday. The crash led to the death of two people and left dozens of passengers injured.
One of the people killed in the crash, 81-year-old Janetta Cumberbatch, died on the way to the hospital. Cumberbatch’s brother, James Francois, told 8News on Thursday that he’s received an outpour of love and support from loved ones.
Francois says it goes to show the kind-hearted and generous person his sister was.
“She was a wonderful human being. She impacted many, many, many lives,” he explained.

Cumberbatch was born in Trinidad and Tobago and later moved to Queens, New York. In New York, Cumberbatch spent over 40 years as a nurse at Jamaica Hospital. “She was so gifted, she helped so many people, her life was about really helping people she dedicated herself to the medical profession,” Francois said.
Francois told 8News his sister was a role model who was adored by many. In her free time, Cumberbatch loved to travel the world.
“She was a traveler. Always on a plane. Jetting off to somewhere,” said Francois.
The last picture Cumberbatch took was with her grandson and granddaughter at a family wedding in Florida. She was on her way home when the bus crashed early Tuesday morning.
“We know that we are going to die and we never know when. It’s the shock of the wind that really upsets us and throw us into that emotional frenzy,” Francois said.
8News learned that Cumberbatch’s cousin was also on the bus with her and was seriously injured in the crash. 8News was told the woman had surgery and is currently in an induced coma.
