Freedom Ruck, a 105-mile trek from Richmond to Arlington, supports veterans

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A team of 12 brave men and women hoping to inspire patriotism began a 105-mile trek from Richmond to Arlington Cemetery Friday morning.

The 6th Annual Freedom Ruck, led by Vic Wise, son of a veteran, raises money for the Navy SEAL Foundation.

The group kicked off the physical challenge at the Virginia War Memorial and will continue north along Route 1, finishing at Arlington National Cemetery on Sunday. Wise will be joined by fellow friends, family and supporters.

“The goal of Freedom Ruck is to simply say thank you,” Wise said. “We try to lead by example and inspire folks to stand behind these heroes and their families. Our hope is to rally the public to take action. Our servicemen and women deserve to know how much we appreciate what they do.”

Over the past five years, Freedom Ruck has raised over $40,000 for the foundation.

Updates from the group can be found on their Facebook page.
