Get outside and enjoy Virginia State Parks for free on New Year’s Day

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Are you off for the holiday today and looking for something to do?  How about a hike in a Virginia State Park?   

All 38 state parks are waiving fees today to get you moving on the first day of 2019.    The First 100 visitors to each of the parks get a free bumper sticker so they can brag about their first day hikes.  (You don’t have to hike, you can also bike, horseback ride, or paddle!)  Snap a picture at a park today, it might win you a prize.   The Virginia State Parks has a photo contest going on where you can win park gift certificates.   Pocahontas and Powhatan State Parks are popular in the Richmond Area.   You can find a park near you by searching here.   Some Virginia State Parks are doing scheduled hikes and programs that you can check out here.  Happy new Year!
