Ashland Police warn of suspicious man who approached juvenile girls

WRIC Newsroom - HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Ashland Police Department is advising residents to be aware after two reports of a suspicious man approaching juvenile girls without their parents.

While no criminal behavior occurred in either instance, police say residents should still be aware and alert out of caution.

The first instance occurred Friday morning, the man approached two juvenile girls waiting at a school bus stop and spoke with them. While it was reported that the man did not say or do anything inappropriate, he did not know the girls and seemed suspicious.

The girls described the man as a white male with gray hair, a gray beard and glasses. At the time he was wearing a Carolina blue t-shirt, khaki shorts, tennis shoes and white socks.

In the second instance Saturday, a man with a similar description approached a female and asked if she wanted to go with him to Kings Dominion.

This time, the suspect was described as a white male in his 60s with a gray beard who wore shorts and flip-flops and drove a red four-door car which may have been a Hyundai.

Both incidents happened in the Center Street and Maple Street areas.

Again, while no criminal or threatening activity has occurred, residents are encouraged to be alert for suspicious behavior and report it immediately by calling 911. Anyone with information regarding these two incidents should contact APD at 365-6140.
