UPDATE: As of 5:10 p.m., all northbound lanes have been reopened. Six-mile backup remains. As of 5:38 p.m., all delays were marked clear, according to VDOT.

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A crash involving multiple vehicles on Interstate-95 slowed traffic to a crawl Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, the crash is near mile marker 91. All north lanes have been closed. VDOT said traffic will be diverted off Exit 89. Traffic backups have reached six miles.

Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes — such as Route 1 — until lanes are reopened. According to VDOT, traffic is currently being diverted at the Lewistown Road exit.
