HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A tractor-trailer driver was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on I-295 in Hanover County Monday afternoon.

Virginia State Police say that just after noon, the driver of the tractor-trailer hauling bottled water and the driver of a 2014 Ford F-150 were both attempting to merge into the left center lane as they were traveling northbound.

According to state police, the driver of the tractor-trailer struck the F-150 on the driver side door, overcorrected and lost control, causing the weight of the load to shift. As a result, the tractor-trailer ran off the road to the left and overturned.

The driver of the tractor and trailer was transported to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries, state police say. The driver of the Ford was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending at this time.
