HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Henrico Police and Child Protective Services are investigating an alleged sex offense at a county-area daycare center.
Tuckaway Child Development & Early Education Center spokeswoman told 8News a Child Protective Services investigation began at the daycare on Wednesday regarding an employee who has since been placed on leave.
Parents who spoke with 8News said they were blindsided by these sex offense allegations.
Police told 8News an investigation is underway in the 1500 block of Midview Road in Varina, where one of six Tuckaway daycare centers resides.
“We have been working closely with authorities and will continue to support them as needed,” said Catherine Hoffman, director of center relations, in an emailed statement. “We also immediately began an internal investigation.
Our Center has always been focused on the safety and security of all of the children we care for, which has created deep trust among our families for years. We will continue to share more information to the extent we are able, as it becomes available.”
This is a list of all the inspections the Department of Social Services conducted since 2014. 17 out of 20 inspections had violations.
Some of these violations included ‘improperly securing medications’ and ‘putting a pillow’ in an infant’s crib, which is a ‘suffocation risk.’
May 2018, the Department of Social Services found that an employee ‘roughly handled’ a child several times, even threatening to ‘break a child’s neck.’
