Disabled vet reports attack in Henrico by men in blackface, dressed as zombies

Henrico County

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Henrico Police are investigating a bizarre attack in the West End after the suspects involved were reportedly dressed as zombies.

The incident took place late at night on Oct. 27 in the parking lot of the Rosemarie Inn. The man who was attacked told 8News several men dressed as zombies jumped him.

Greg Roland, a disabled veteran with a prosthetic leg, says the men who attacked him last Saturday night used racial slurs and were in blackface.

“Some guy just pops up out of nowhere with blackface on,” Roland told 8News. “Several of them and come at me calling me N—er.”

“And then by the time I back up and turn out to go that way, they snatching me out my truck. They pulled you, they pulled me literally out my truck. And then once I got back in my truck and I tried to leave, the guy jumped in front of me and I hit him.”

Roland eventually crashed into two parked cars in the lot. The suspects ran off before Henrico Police arrived.

“We gotta find these guys. I don’t want them doing nobody else and Lord knows if weapons was involved, it would have been a mess out here,” Roland said.

Roland went to urgent care for a suspected broken nose. The 70-year old says his injuries will heal but he wants to find the men who caused them.

“I wanna find them,” he told 8News. “I’m gonna find them with the help of the police and anybody else who come here who knew me and somebody’s gotta know these people.”

Investigators told 8News they believe this was an isolated incident and there’s no public safety concern.
