HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — One person is at VCU Medical Center after their home caught fire early Friday morning.
Just before 3:30 a.m., fire crews responded to the home on Greenmeadow Circle where heavy smoke was seen coming from the front door.
Henrico Fire Assistant Chief Gerald Cricket said that when crews entered the home, they encountered heavy smoke and flames. Crews found the family dog and were able to reunite the dog with the family.
Smoke from the fire went into the adjacent unit, but fire crews were able to ventilate and the family can remain in the unit, Cricket said. The family living where the fire started won’t be able to stay in their unit and will be staying with nearby family members.
One person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation but is expected to recover, Cricket said.
The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation. Stay with 8News for updates.
