HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Henrico Fire crews responded to a large fire in the Varina area that started on Saturday evening.
On Saturday, Feb. 11 at approximately 4:27 p.m., first responders received a call regarding a fire on the 9500 block of Deep Bottom Road in the Varina area.
According to Henrico Fire, the fire is in a pine forest and 30 acres of land are affected.

Thirty-five firefighters from eight engine companies are on scene. The Virginia Department of Forestry is also assisting and is providing ploughs and dozers to help clear the area.
Henrico Fire reported that the fire is in a rural area, so first responders do not have access to fire hydrants. Instead, crews are using water tankers for their water supply, as well as department brush units to help access the area.
As of 8 p.m. on Saturday, a representative from Henrico Fire reports that the fire is “60% contained” and they are “making good headway.”
Crews are still working to determine a cause.
