HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The safety of students inside of the classroom is one of the top priorities for Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS). That’s why they want to have an open discussion with the public about what they can do to increase school safety.
HCPS is holding a community forum Wednesday night.
The forum will begin with a short video, followed by statements from Henrico County police, fire and school officials.
The public will then get their opportunity to be heard. People will break off into small groups to discuss their thoughts on school safety, along with their ideas to potentially improve it.
School board members, administrators and the county’s safety and emergency management members are expected to attend.
Earlier this month, a teen was arrested and charged for making threats against three Henrico County schools. The threatening message on social media was directed at Godwin, Deep Run and Glen Allen high schools. Authorities deemed the threat not credible.
This all comes after a teenager opened fire with a semi-automatic rifle at a Florida high school last month, killing 17 people.
Wednesday’s forum is set to start at 6:30 p.m. at Hungary Creek Middle School.
