HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Authorities are investigating a shooting in Henrico that sent a 5-year-old girl to the hospital with critical injuries on Thursday afternoon.
Henrico Police tweeted at around 4:40 p.m. that officers were in the area of the 3600 block of Whitlock Avenue investigating a reported shooting.
In an updated tweet, police confirmed that after receiving calls for shots fired in the 2500 block of Byron Street, officers located the girl suffering from a gunshot wound. She has life-threatening injuries, police said.
Another victim, an adult male, was also located by police at the scene. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound.
8News learned at the scene on Thursday that a resident brought the girl to the area near the Oak Hill Shopping Center to get help.
Investigators said the shooting took place at another location.
“We’ve got all our assets committed to this,” said Henrico Police Lt. Brian Wilson, “and we’re gonna be out here and we’re gonna work the community and do our best to figure out who did it and take them out of the community.”
There is no suspect information at this time, Henrico Police said.
In a Friday morning update, police said the 5-year-old girl is still in critical condition at an area hospital.
Lt. Wilson spoke on Friday about the status of the investigation from Henrico Police.
“We owe it to this little girl and the gentleman who was shot to figure out what happened and who’s responsible,” Lt. Wilson said. “The innocent little five-year-old girl deserves our efforts, the whole community to come forward and figure out exactly what happened, who’s responsible and help us bring them to justice.”
