Henrico observes 62nd annual Student Government Day

Local News

HENRICO COUNTY, Va, (WRIC) — High school seniors in Henrico spent the day taking over the government.

8news caught up with the students at a board of supervisors work session Wednesday. There, students shadowed officials from the county manager to school board members as part of Student Government Day.

It’s a day where students get to see what it takes to lead a department or the whole county itself.

Karen Sanchez, of Highland Springs High School, says: “I think it gives a better understanding for the students if they’re not pursuing a role in the government. It broadens their view in how one is actually in the government.

“I think it’s a really cool opportunity to be able to experience it without actually having to be an area of study quite yet.”

Teachers selected the students who took part.

Henrico has sponsored the event for 62 years.
