LANCASTER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Local State of Emergency has been issued for Lancaster County ahead of Hurricane Florence.

The County is reminding residents that anyone in Zone A must evacuate. If you do not know your zone you can find it here.

If you don’t have a place to evacuate, the county will open a public shelter at Lancaster Middle School on Thursday at 10 a.m. The shelter will accommodate families, cats and dogs, but no other pets will be allowed.

The County says emergency vehicles won’t be able to respond if roads are flooded, so if you are in a low lying area evacuate now. If winds exceed 45 miles per hour, all responses will be suspended.

You can visit the county website here to learn more about how to stay safe.
